WORK IN THE SCHOOLS

Scholastic theatre workshops are born of the child’s need to exercise her creativity, listening skills, and self-expression.
We feel that theatre is a remarkable means of approaching a child, helping him to channel his emotional resources and explore the expressive possibilities of his own body, sources of an intelligence often relegated to second place in the school.
The play of theatre answers the child’s need to show herself, at the same time protecting her, allowing her to show needs otherwise considered illegitimate: an occasion to acquire other rules, to develop her ability to listen, to cooperate, to disagree, to oppose or join the others, to learn the limits and the potentials of herself and the others.
Theatre offers a path for the child’s personal growth, a way to welcome the unforeseen, to joyfully embrace paradox.

Our school workshops include students from kindergarten through high school, as well as teachers and parents.
We have long term ongoing relationships with many schools, which has permitted a deepening of the work with the provinces of Brindisi, Taranto, and Bari.

Special features of our recent work include

  • Theatrical involvement of parents
  • Work in public squares
  • Continuing work of older children after they’ve left the school. High school students have returned to participate in elementary school projects, because they feel so passionate about theatre. In this way they’ve become de facto tutors to the younger children, creating an organic theatrical culture.
