  1. title: BLACK LIGHT
    TEA and LUCA: mixed-medium sketch

When we think of the moon in the well, it’s easy to imagine a bright full moon… only a few artists imagine there the mysterious reflection of a black moon…someone with a lot of lighting experience might even try to recreate that subtle light, which has inspired the new, BLACKMOONFEST, for the last two years serving as balance to our traditional FULLMOONFEST. Thank you!

PRIZE: All this summer, la Luna nel Pozzo will be set for the photographic shoot of your choice!

  1. title: PILLARS OF HEAVEN
    NATASCIA: pastel floreal sketch

It has been suggested that to offset global warming, humankind should plant 1000 billion plants, which comes to 143 trees for every man, woman and child. Thanks for the idea, Natascia. But one is not enough! That’s why we will plant vegetal arches a lá Natascia at the entrance to the garden, to the park, to the sensory glen, to the labyrinth…..

PRIZE: An ongoing work contract with the Agritourism La Luna nel Pozzo!

  1. title: DEMOLISHING THE FOURTH WALL
    IOLANDA and CLAUDIA: video sketch

When we thought to play with our friends a pretend “competition”, we didn’t consider that among our friends are experts in image design and projection. Apart from the beauty and clarity of their presentation, they have given us a real ‘aha!’ moment. We won’t be building their design, but will be following their intuition that a portal is not just a two-dimensional object, but a three-dimensional experience for who passes. Thank you Iolanda and Claudia!

PRIZE: Two cans of extra-virgin biological cold-pressed olive oil 2020 produced by la Luna nel Pozzo (did you know we don’t just produce culture, but also agriculture?)

  1. title: BRIDGES OVER EUROPE
    MARIO
    : mixed media

By rights this should be the winning proposal, submitted by the son of the supreme judge. But my son is unfortunate, as I have the ethics of Gandhi.Which I will put aside, to say ‘Brilliant! Amazing! A genius is among us!’ Sorry, but I feel better now… Thank you Mario, the world is in need of bridges, and we at la Luna pledge to continue constructing them, physically and metaphorically. For now, you are in our footsteps. Tomorrow, we follow in yours…

PRIZE: Free entrance to all summer events at la Luna, plus two (2) Italian sausages provided by the supreme judge (your father).

  1. title: AMERICAN STYLE
    ROBERT: tablet design over photo

When Grant Wood presented his painting ‘American Gothic’ at a Chicago competition in 1930, it was derided by critics and public alike, a local farmer even threatening to bite off the ear of the artist. The canvass later became an icon of American art. I wish the same fate for Mr McNeer’s proposal, which the supreme judge hasn’t chosen, but since the former will choose which proposal to construct, the latter can only throw in the towel…

PRIZE: One (1) 18th century farmhouse nestled among the olive groves of the Puglia countryside.

  1. title: ALL FOR POETRY, POETRY FOR ALL
    ANGEL: verbal message

An arch filled with colored cloth, where visitors can take, or add, a poemHere at la Luna we no longer greet ‘the audience’, but ‘guests’. This, because we understand that this is a place for creation, and our creation is always a collective act. The divine is always present in the material, beautifully clear in your proposal, Angel. For that reason, we will construct a ‘poetry exchange tree’ here at la Luna. Thank you for the wonderful idea!

PRIZE: Dinner for four (4) at the private residence of Robert McNeer, contrada Foragno s.n. Ostuni.

  1. title: LUNAR VOYAGE
    ANTONELLA:
    verbal message

A mobile of floating suitcases, powered by bicycle parts
The eyes of our guests tell us that la Luna is an important destination for some. For others, a point of departure. As actors, we ourselves often have the packed suitcase under the bed. Thank you, Antonella, for a resounding image, a light-hearted diaspora. The Yiddish expression says ‘Where laughter and tears are together, there is god.’

PRIZE: a poem from the Oracular Poem collection

  1. title: TIME DANCERS
    ADRIAN: sculpture in wood

Do you know what happened to the old archway? One FULLMOONFEST night, someone decided to improvise a balancing act on the sculpture which united the two columns, carved from ancient maritime pine by our artist-friend Adrian. The whole thing came down, hopefully on the amateur gymnast’s head! Of course we wanted a proposal from Adrian for this competition, and he proposed this sculpture where the wood dances, light as smoke, sinuous as snakes…. Thank you Adrian! It won’t be at the entrance, but you’ll find it elsewhere at la Luna!

PRIZE: Two (2) weeks’ vacation at la Luna, during which you will oversee the mounting of your sculpture in our courtyard.

  1. title: GOD SHAVE THE QUEEN
JOHN: suggestions for the entrance with postcards of international interest

“Between the world and the theater is the car park.” In English it sounds more important. We thank Mr John for opening our eyes to the magnificence in our grasp, if we only ignore the paltry limits of time and money. Indeed, ‘…the world shall be our pipes, and we shall play as gods upon it.’ Mr John suggests we rebuild our arch as twin to Buckingham Palace’s, with towers to outdo those of London Bridge. Oh, and we will replace our van with a red double-decker bus!

PRIZE: Free round-trip transport to the airport of Bari or Brindisi, and ten (10) of the most kitsch Puglian postcards we can find…

  1. title:
